There are many reasons that people choose to be REALTORS®. Some have always liked looking at homes, some are attracted to what they think is big money, and others make a general statement that they want to help people. Like any profession, there are always going to be those within the profession that don’t do even the basics and those who do unethical things. Real estate is no exception, and there seem to be more unprofessional individuals in this field than in most other professions, which gives agents a bad name. An interesting observation is that when I was a special education teacher, and people found out, everyone would exclaim how they thought that was so great. However, now when I meet people for the first time, and I say I am a REALTOR®, I get a very different response. In fact, once when I joined a book club, when I was asked my profession, and I said I was a REALTOR®, my friend who was introducing me said, “Oh, but she used to be a teacher.” Everyone seemed relieved.
At TK Homes, we do love homes, and we do love helping people, but there is something more. We treat our clients like family, meaning we take care of our clients how we take care of our family. Yes, this is absolutely a job, and we want to earn a living, but we are in this business to help guide people to where they want to or need to go with the highest level of service. In many cases, this can be life-changing. I feel so lucky that I get to be part of my clients’ lives and story when they are buying or selling a home, even if it’s just for a small period of time and that I get to help them improve their lives. The following examples are not meant to toot our own horn. They are just important examples of how we deeply care for each of our clients. We’ve helped clients who were separated, sell their home just in time, so they didn’t go into foreclosure, children sell their parents’ estates when they were consumed with the grief of losing their loved one, spouses move on to a new life after their partner died, cancer patients sell their homes while being mindful that their immune systems are compromised due to getting chemotherapy, young parents move within walkability of their child’s school, grandparents move into the same community as their grandchildren, first-homebuyers buy their first home ,and so much more.
For the members of TK Homes, this is so much more than a job. We get to be a small part of the lives of our clients and help make their lives better. We are so grateful for that. I will never say—I am just a REALTOR®; instead, I will say: I care for my clients as I do my family, I listen when things are challenging in their lives, I do extra things to make the process as easy as possible, I celebrate their successes with them, and, of course, at the end of the day, I will net them the most at the closing table or help them secure the best deal on their dream home.
